Helpful Tips For Safe Storage
Safe Storage Do's:
- Easiest way to store bins are on utility shelves
- Use Plastic Totes instead of boxes
- Plan your storage space. Place items you need to access often near the front. Allow for walkways
- Make an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place
- Use uniform size boxes or Plastic Totes for easy stacking. Be sure your boxes are strong enough for the things you put in them
- List contents of boxes or Plastic Totes on the sides and top. Number boxes and seal them with tape
- Stack lighter boxes or Plastic Totes on top of heavier ones
- Wrap dishes and glassware in paper and stack on top
- Wrap pictures & mirrors in cardboard, mark as fragile, stack on end
- Use furniture with drawers to store items such as photos, knick- knacks, and china. Wrap breakable items in towels, or blankets
- Tables with removable legs can be “broken down” to save space
- Sofas and love seats can be stored on end to save floor space
- If storing on a concrete floor, place items on boards or pallets to guard against dampness
